April MMTCA Newsletter 2017

“Explore life, without fear. That is greatness.”
-Wim Hof

March showers bring April flowers! What an amazing March, in spite of those nasty bugs going around!

Our current and updated schedule is available. No new classes, just a few tweaks to some class times. I do have new classes planned for June and will keep you posted.

Our one day in house retreat was a wonderful day for an inward journey. 37 people gathered for breath work, gem studies, shoulder girdle and scapula analysis, lunch catered from Dragon City, and movies featuring Master Liang and others. We capped it off with a nice slow round of the solo form. Lovely!! My sincere thanks and gratitude to Mary Jo Feely for the class on the Chakra and corresponding gems and stones, Jane Shockley for her introduction to the function and anatomy of the shoulder and direct applications for the arm movements for standing and solo form, and Dan Polsfuss for taking us on a stroll back in time to see the “Old Man” himself!

In house retreat Saturday March18th 9-2

Khalwat= solitude, retreat

Saturday is our one day in house retreat. Staring at 900AM, we will go over the schedule, then move into warm-ups and breath work. Our first session will be on Gems and the Chakra:

Stones and crystals, also known as gemstones, have been used for healing purposes for thousands of years. Their vibrational properties vary widely, and each plays a unique role in helping to clear and balance the human energy field. The energy of a specific crystal and your energetic needs, be they physical, emotional, mental or spiritual, are important aspects  to consider when choosing gemstones for healing.

Bio:
Mary Jo Feely, a registered nurse, accredited and certified Healing Touch Practitioner, HTSM Healing Practitioner, and Usui Reiki Master/Teacher has been working in the Energy Healing field since 2003. She has studied and received extensive training in Healing Touch, Usui Reiki, Back Chakra Activation, Hara and Crystal Healing, Essential Oils and Raindrop Technique, and Christian and Buddhist meditation practices. Mary Jo uses pure essential oils, gemstones, prayer and music in her professional healing practice. She teaches Reiki and Energy Healing classes for adults and children, and also offers mentoring for Energy Healers.

Then we will have our second session on the shoulder girdle and how to be come aware, and use, this important part of or Tai-Chi structure.:

Shoulder Blades and Collarbones / The Shoulder Girdle

In this session, we will examine the anatomy of the shoulder girdle. Clarity of the

bones can increase mobility and enhance ease and relaxation.

Concepts covered:

 The design of the shoulder girdle

 Where movement happens

 Gentle solo and partnered forms

Bio: Jane Shockley holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Dance at Carleton College.  She has also been on faculty at St. Olaf College, Macalester College and Zenon Dance School. In 2005, she became a certified movement educator and in 2009 received a Sage Award for Outstanding Dance Educator.
Some of the highlights of her 30-year career include dancing with Zenon Dance Company, JazzDance, Doug Elkins Dance Company and New Dance Performance Lab. She has worked with a range of local and national artists including Bebe Miller, Douglas Dunn, Bill T. Jones, Stuart Pimsler, Linda Shapiro, David Dorfman, Shawn McConneloug, Morgan Thorson, Donna Uchizono Ralph Lemon and Chris Aiken.  Jane has performed with the Minnesota Opera in the productions of Macbeth and Transatlantic, well as, Beth Corning’s Glue Factory Project.  Jane is also the rehearsal director for Arena Dances of Minneapolis.

We will break for lunch, then Dan Polsfuss will treat us to some vintage Tai-Chi movies featuring Master T. T. Liang. A group solo form should round out our day. Any questions feel free to ask or e-mail.
